Around the World in 90 Students
Just wrapped up my first week at HBS! Before I head off to a variety of happy hours, dinners, bars, and brunches, I wanted to comment on how fantastic and diverse the students here at HBS here. Case in point: As some of you may know, the first year class at HBS is divided into 10 “sections” of about 90 students each, and it is with this group of individuals that you spend the vast majority of your time.
Anyway, I met my section this week and everyone is amazing. When we went around the room introducing ourselves I jotted down the countries that people hailed from…the list is impressive, to say the least, and is as follows:
- USA
- Peru
- Lebanon
- Argentina
- Egypt
- India
- China
- Brazil
- Greece
- Norway
- Japan
- Nigeria
- Dominican Republic
- France
- Mongolia
- Ukraine
- England
- Indonesia
- Romania
- Phillipines
Whew! And that doesn’t even include all of the amazing places that people have lived, worked, and traveled. It makes me wonder why they’d ever want little ol’ me from North Carolina. Aw, shucks…
Have a great weekend!

Ha – glad to see there are people from my native Romania up there! Although I suspect there aren’t that many, right?
Good luck with the classes! Tons of respect for you keeping up this blog, most students don’t have the time during B school.
Hey Dana – don’t worry, Romania is definitely represented. Only one so far, I must admit, but there very well may be more, you never know
When you get here you can carry on the tradition! Thanks for the well wishes!
Just curious though, is it a boy or a girl? How old is s/he? I’m asking because I’m also interested in HBS, although there’s still lots I need to do to make myself competitive
Anybody from other sections who is from Zimbabwe?
Hey there! I wanted to let you know that I recently discovered that there is exactly one current HBS student from Zimbabwe. Just wanted to pass that along
Hope apps are going well!
Is the student 1st or 2nd year?
mount airy, north carolina at that!
best wishes
