Discriminatory Christmas Carols
Some of you out there may know that I am slightly obsessed with my grandmother. Code name: MeMa. She is 95 years young and pretty much the most badass lady I know. See below for photographic evidence:
Why is this relevant, you may wonder? I’ll tell you why. Here I am, enjoying a lovely evening of Pandora Christmas tunes as I catch up on the million things I’m behind on, and dang if I wasn’t jolted out of the Christmas spirit by age discrimination! Yes, ladies and gentleman, your Christmas carol favorite, “The Christmas Song,” (commonly subtitled as, “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire”), is AGEIST! Don’t believe me? Please refer to Exhibit 1.
Exhibit 1:
Lyrics from the song, verse 4, line 2:
And so I’m offering this simple phrase,
To kids from one to ninety-two*,
Although its been said many times, many ways,
A very Merry Christmas to you
*this is ageist
Why only to kids from 1 to 92? What about kids who are 95?! No Christmas wishes for them?! To this, I say, Bah, Humbug!
Don’t listen to the haters, Mema. Merry merry Christmas, you crazy kid!
