It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

December 12, 2011

Confession:  I secretly like exams.  We’re getting into the heart of them right now at HBS, and I’m diggin it.  I love the sense of comraderie that comes with an impending tidal wave of finals.  I delight in looking back through a semester’s worth of oh-so-carefully scribbled class notes.  I thrive on the fabulously put together review documents that my incredibly organized classmates created for everyone.  I’m obsessed with the fact that you can take most exams from anywhere you want…which for me typically means in my cozy little apartment, in my cozy little bathrobe, with a cozy cup of tea.

I know, I know…this sounds weird (because it is).  However, keep in mind that HBS exams are totally different than exams you may be familiar with.  Like class, all exams are case based, so you basically are given a cluster-f business situation to read, analyze, and write about for the final.  It’s actually kind of fun – you basically just pretend like you’re an all powerful CEO and wax poetic on all of the brilliant things you would do to turn around company so-and-so.  Plus, these are some of the last exams I’ll ever get to take (that is, unless I decide to pursue my J.D. or M.D. after finishing business school…seriously considering it, actually, so I can stay a student forever)!  On exams if you get it wrong it doesn’t matter.  In life, you get it wrong, you get fired.  When you think about it that way exams all of a sudden are looking so bad now, are they?

Judge if you must, but I’m enjoying the change of pace around here!  The only negative is that, once this batch of exams is over on Friday, 25% of my business school experience will be officially over.  Hard to believe!

That’s enough procrastination from now…back to watching Keeping up with the Kardashians studying finance!

I can only focus in about 30 minute increments, so you’re sure to see more studying-induced ramblings from me in the next week.  Stay tuned!
